Past Projects
MY CONSULTANCY PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN SINCE 1997
I am an independent consulting civil engineer working on my own since 1997 and have undertaken all manner of projects associated with health and safety issues in the construction industry.  I have no employees nor do I retain any other persons to undertake work for me.  Any work placed with me will be undertaken by me to a time scale established at the outset.   I normally charge by the hour.
Organisations which have retained my services since 1997 have included government departments (both in the UK and abroad); client and owner organisations; designers and planners of construction work; construction companies; legal bodies (for both civil and criminal cases); academic bodies (lecturing activities) professional institutions; insurance companies and trade associations.
I have been engaged on the following work activities –
  1. Drafting contractual documents for construction projects setting out requirements  and objectives to be achieved on construction health and safety matters;
  2. Assessment of tender submission documents by contractors and construction supervision organisations in relation to their adequacy on health and safety issues;
  3. Panel membership of interview committees selecting construction project contractors and designers;
  4. Special independent investigation of key accidents on site seeking to establish the full range of root causes;
  5. Investigation and reporting on contractual disputes relating to construction health and safety matters (UK and abroad);
  6. Interviewing and reporting on potential health and safety specialists applying for posts on large construction projects;
  7. Expert Witness work for legal practices for both civil and criminal cases, appearing for both the defence and the prosecution in criminal cases;
  8. The provision of Expert Opinion to legal practices following accidents on site with regard to possible future liabilities and the likelihood of prosecution (UK and abroad);
  9. The complete examination of health and safety systems being applied to a large construction project and the reporting on my findings;
  10. Reports to insurance companies on my view as to the quality and depth of risk management being applied on site;
  11. Undertaking extensive lecturing activities to many companies in the construction field particularly focussing on the legislation which applies and how to comply with it (UK and abroad);
  12. Membership of technical committees of construction industry conferences on construction health and safety and vetting the quality of contributor’s papers;
  13. Undertaking invited book reviews of construction health and safety publications and submitting my opinions for publication;
  14. The examination and scrutiny of health and safety policies, risk assessment documents and method statements;
  15. Devising and delivering of construction health and safety conference workshops and other training activities (mainly abroad);
  16. Responding to invitations to present papers to conferences abroad and the chairing of individual sessions of international conferences on both tunnelling safety and more general construction health and safety events.
My expertise lies in the construction industry which I joined in 1964, and where I have been continuously employed.
